Transcript for CHP Designation

Hello, this is Richard Wilson and today we’re going to talk about the Certified Hedge Fund Professional Designation, the CHP designation and one question we get related to this program. So basically one of the most common questions we get is about — you know is the CHP globally recognized? Or how globally recognized is the CHP? Or how well known is it? Or how credible is it? And a very valid question and we just wanted to address that directly within these videos. We can just like fully explain it within a more interactive content than just writing some new text for the website.

So one thing that I think everyone should know is that the membership among the CHP program is very international. Only around 50% of the professionals in the program are from the United States, the rest are from countries such as Hong Kong, South Africa, England, Brazil, Canada, Luxemburg, Switzerland, Italy. These are members that actually just joined during the past session from these different countries. China, just only over a couple of people. We have many professionals from all over the world who take the program. So if you’re not in the United States, this program is still very relevant and applicable to your work with hedge funds or in the hedge fund industry.

Next, is that we recently have had many firms like one I just spoke to two days ago requiring the CHP designation for all the employees of their company. Those that are working in the company now are completing the CHP and anyone who would like to get hired and their company in the future must either hold the CHP designation or the company is going to pay for them to receive it after they join. But they said it is a definite benefit if somebody has a CHP before joining their firm because if all else is held equal, someone has 5 years of hedge fund experience, the other person has 5 years, they both have their MBA but one has formal training on hedge funds and has spend over 200 hours studying hedge fund fundamentals and then a practical area of their choice with the level 2, that’s going to be distinct advantage over the other person in terms of knowledge, how quickly they can work on the job, how effective they are at working with clients, how much they can contribute to the team and there’s just going to have more access to networking, alumni resources and business improvement resources for themselves and the business they work for in the hedge fund industry.

So the fact that companies are now requiring that people hold the CHP designation to be employed at their firm is definitely something that speaks through a third-party to the credibility of our program.

Next is that so far we’ve already had over 500 professionals move through our program. Over the next 2 years we’re planning on serving over 1,300 additional members. Every time we open our session it sells out and we are always adding more professionals for each session that we offer. And then also, we looked up statistics for our website recently and too, hedgefundcertification.com, our website for the CHP, we actually had over 500,000 visitors since starting this program. So many professionals in the industry are least aware that it’s out there and I’ve read some basic information on what it is, what is required, what is means to hold the CHP? And that’s only going to grow as our program grows, we spend more on marketing, we’re doing more positions in the CHP and it’s becoming more well known every day.

And the last, probably the most important thing to remember or keep in mind is that the CHP designation is the only online hedge fund training and certification program that’s made exclusively for hedge funds. We provide networking events, we provide video resources, we have over 100 videos we’re making available and we just provide a real kind of 360 learning environment between your required readings and study guide, the mock exam, the video content, the e-mail help, IR team, the networking events. We really provide this huge realm and access of resources and things that can just help you learn about hedge funds and also benefit from that knowledge and actually act on it whether you’re running a hedge fund, a service provider or looking to work in the industry or improve your career in the industry.

So I hope all these things help explain the answer to the common question we get about whether the hedge fund certification and training program we run is credible or how credible or globally recognized it is. I hope this provides a really detailed answer to that question and thank you for your time today. If you need to learn more about the CHP please visit us at hedgefundcertification.com or send us an e-mail at team@hedgefundcertification.com. Thank you.

The CHP program is the industry standard #1 most popular and trusted certification program built exclusively by and for hedge fund professionals.

CHP Designation Review

A few years ago, I noticed that professionals in the hedge fund industry had very limited options when it came to training.  So, I along with the Hedge Fund Group designed the Certified Hedge Fund Professional designation.  Since then, we have provided 100% online hedge fund training to more than 1,200 professionals around the world.  Some of our participants have been kind enough to share their experiences in the Certified Hedge Fund Professional program.

First, a Level 1 Certified Hedge Fund Professional explains how the certification helped improve his resume:

Transcript:

My name is Kevin and I just recently completed the level 1 Certification for Hedge Fund Professionals. The reasons why I chose to pursue the certification are (1), I have a great passion for finance and through that I am pursuing a career in the hedge fund industry. (2) I want a competitive advantage for competing against Ivy League candidates for hedge fund positions. Finally (3), to learn a great sense of knowledge regarding investment strategies, portfolio analytics, funds of funds and the hedge fund industry as a whole.

You know coming from a nontraditional university, the CHP provides me with an advantage in entering the finance industry and it also gives me a leg up when competing for watch your positions. I may not be coming from an Ivy League institution but when I’m up for a competitive position the CHP gives me an opportunity to standout among others. For example, just last year I was an equity research analyst at an investment relations firm and through that experience alone, I was able to be noticed and picked up by a managing director from one of the top capital asset management companies in the Southeast region.

From that initial contact, I received an e-mail for a full-time offer at their firm and was also told that I was competing against three other students from Ivy League institutions. Yet again, being the only one from a nontraditional school, the CHP provided me with the tools and knowledge to be able to surpass a series of tests and in the end I was able to outperform those other candidates. Because of the designation program that the CHP offers, I was able to be involved with the in depth and comprehensive course rate that specializes in the hedge fund industry.

Also, through the great network within the hedge fund group, I’ve been able to gain great exposure and also be noticed by top firms. I recommend this program to anyone who has a drive and passion for finance and especially in the hedge fund industry. To all the students especially those from the non-traditional school, this is a great opportunity to confirm and validate your passion for finance to any firm out there on Wall Street as well as giving you an advantage when going up against an Ivy League candidate and other top performers. Thank you.

A second Certified Hedge Fund Professional training participant shares his experience:

Transcript:

Good morning. I’m Casey. I’m a software engineer. I develop products used in the creation of computer chips for consumer electronic devices. For decades, I’ve had a passion for automated trading systems. 8 months ago, I decided to turn this passion into a gainful employment. In my search, I came upon the Hedge Fund Group and their CHP Certified Hedge Fund Professional program. I decided to pursue the program. The program has had three benefits for me.

First, it has given a sense of the ecology of hedge funds, operations, investors and support organizations. Second, it’s given me a new appreciation for risk, what it is, how it’s measure and how to manipulate it. This is critical in understanding and evaluating automated trading systems. Third and most important, through the supplemental materials and coaching from the team at the Hedge Fund Group, I have developed a personal plan for achieving gainful employment in the hedge fund industry and I’ve been executing successfully on this plant.

The CHP program has delivered the value it promised to me. Now, I’m sure it will deliver this value for you as well. Have a great day.

Another CHP participant explains the benefits of joining the Certified Hedge Fund Professional designation and how it helped him as a fund manager:

Transcript:

Hi, my name is Chad Gardener. I’m a fund manager at Gardner Investments Limited and we’re registered in the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean and we manage a corporate called “Fund.” For those of you who don’t know what that is, basically we trade stocks and options for short-term income.

And the Caribbean is a great place to be in a hedge fund industry and apart from the great weather. We have all the hedge fund consultants at our fingertips and accountants and lawyers that we can focus on trading, that’s what we do best. But we have a credibility issue, you know we’re always fighting to prove our credibility and that’s why I felt the need to become a certified hedge fund professional.

The CHP will enhance our credibility and make us part of a global group of professionals. And the CHP also gives us direct access to other industry professional. You know it has just the network within the industry. Another great thing about the CHP is that the exam is online. You know, we’re in the Caribbean, we’d have to get on a plane and fly to the US to take a paper-based exam. So the online exam is perfect for us. That’s three great reasons to join the program. I would encourage anyone in the industry to join.

Finally, a buy-side equity analyst and aspiring hedge fund manager explains how the CHP designation has improved his knowledge of the hedge fund industry:

Transcript:

Hi, this is a testimonial for a CHP level 1 program that I recently completed. Throughout this preparation, I had an opportunity to learn about the broad understanding of hedge fund industry. In my case, I work as a buy-side equity analyst and learning about the due diligence process or third-party marketing was very powerful as my long-term career goal is to be a hedge fund manager.

And also if you’re new in the industry or trying to get into this market I think this program is very helpful. It’s not because it’s the exam that’s really for the hedge fund industry but also it will train you to be able to speak same language as other hedge fund professionals. In fact, it is an advantage to have at the job interview. One example is, I recently had a job interview with one of the major firm in the US that provide a consulting service in the hedge fund industry.

Also, I think if you work in a mutual fund especially as an investment advisor this will probably be really helpful because you will be able to provide additional information to the clients that is not exposed in the mutual funds. Overall, I think it’s a great program and I’m excited to participate on level 2.

There’s nothing like hearing about a program straight from the professionals who have completed it.  I hope that these videos help you understand how the CHP can help you and your career.

Hedge Fund Training

A question that I often receive is, do I need hedge fund training?  In the following video, I provide some reasons that you should consider completing a hedge fund training program.

Video Transcript/SummaryThe strategies and tips provided within this video module include:

  1. Few professionals are formally trained on hedge funds.
  2. Thus, many hedge fund professionals are not very familiar with other strategies and how other hedge funds or fund of hedge funds operate.
  3. Hedge fund training can sometimes lead to promotions or new business opportunities.
  4. Most of our economy in Europe and the United States is knowledge-based so that is our #1 asset and you need to invest in growing that knowledge.

Transcript for Hedge Fund Training

Hello, this is Richard Wilson and welcome to this short video on hedge fund training. One question I often get is whether — somebody is asking me whether they need hedge fund training or what’s the importance of getting trained on the topic of hedge funds, and I just wanted to cover that real brief because it’s such a common question.

The most important reason why you should receive training on hedge funds is that there really is not very many professionals and not a higher percentage of professionals who have been formally trained on hedge funds. So most people aren’t aware of other investment strategies that are much different from their own or they’re not aware of exactly how the fund of hedge funds operate. They do at a very high level, at the 10,000-foot level but not at the 500-foot level or 1,000-foot level which could make the difference ineffectively being able to work with the fund of hedge fund, maybe work for a fund of hedge fund or in the future, you know who know what types of joint partnerships or ventures might be available between you and the fund to fund.

So I think that that’s just one example of why it’s important to learn more about hedge funds. But other than that I’ve seen people who after completing hedge fund training programs were promoted from a hedge fund research associate to a portfolio manager and risk manager within a hedge fund. I know professionals who now are running companies such as a hedge fund recruiting firm that I spoke to last week, they now require everybody on their team complete CHP designation because they want to know that their recruiters know enough about hedge funds so they could work with their clients. They’re not going to embarrass the company or make a mistake. That’s really basic knowledge about hedge funds.

And I think the final reason why hedge fund training or really any type of training is valuable, is that most of our economy in Europe, United States is knowledge-based economy. Peter Drucker called us “knowledge workers” because instead of working with steel and metal and hard materials, we’re working with knowledge and abilities and skills that people have, which is all related to what you can learn and what you’ve been trained on.

And so if you think of a knowledge worker versus more of a blue-collar type job where you’re working with hard materials, your knowledge is really your asset. Like you yourself are your most valuable and most important asset. And the faster you grown that asset the more that you’re worth. And if you can grow that asset with knowledge, it’s specific to the job that you have, that’s going to be worth 2 times, 10 times, maybe 30 times more than knowledge that is just maybe more generic. You could read a book on sales or get sales training but how much valuable would it be to get capital raising training for hedge funds. That’s mini layers, more specific and more valuable.

So I think that lots of people sometimes forget that and forget how important they are as their own asset and positioning yourself in the industry with all of your experience, training and relationships is really one of the most important things you can kind of thing through and plan. So those are the main points I wanted to get across about the importance of hedge fund training. I hope that answers a few of your questions. And if you have more questions, please feel free to send them in to us. Thank you for your time.

I created the Certified Hedge Fund Professional program because I knew how valuable a training program on hedge funds would be.  Since then, more than 1,200 professionals have enrolled in the program and gained greater knowledge about hedge funds.
