For both types of engagements, valuation is critical. On the M&A side, bankers needs to advise their clients on the right price at which to sell or to acquire a business. In the instance of raising capital through an equity offering, bankers need to advise their clients about what ownership stake to offer for a given equity investment. The primary valuation techniques include comparable companies analysis, precedent transactions analysis and discounted cash flow analysis.
