Answer: Most investment banks have a very formal annual review process. This is in part due to the fact that performance bonuses account for a very high percentage of the typical banker’s annual compensation. The review process at many banks allows for senior bankers to evaluate those below them, while also allowing junior bankers the opportunity to participate in the evaluation process for those above them. Evaluations are likely to include analysis of the employee’s work product, career development, initiative, communication skills, attitude, team building and more. At officer levels in a bank, the evaluation will also focus on the business actually generated by the banker.
