Investment Banking CertificationQuestion: Are associations important to join as an investment banking professional?

Answer: The investment banking industry is not typically known for its participation in industry associations (unlike other professional fields such as law, accounting or medicine). Participation in associations is more likely to serve as either a networking or recruiting opportunity or a philanthropic purpose. For the former purpose (networking) the banker might belong to an association focused on his/her area of industry expertise as a way of meeting potential clients. Likewise, some bankers may be active in activities related to their alma mater (college or business school) as a way to keep open a pipeline of new investment banking candidates.
